Swim
Comments: Swam at about my normal pace but didn't place very well. My sighting wasn't very good, swam across the buoyline once into oncoming racers. What would you do differently?: Swim faster. Work on sighting. The qwest for the perfect googles continues. Transition 1
Comments: Went pretty good. Didn't rush anything so my time wasn't the greatest, But being my first oly I just wanted to get through it without any mistakes. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: My bike computer says the route was alitlle longer than 28 miles with an avg spd of 18.24 mph, still fairly slow. What kept running though my head for the whole ride was "I gotta run 6.2 miles aft this", so I never really pushed the bike hard enough. It's just wrong that my group bike rank is lower than my run rank, they've new even been close before. What would you do differently?: Push the bike alot harder, I don't this my run would have suffered (much). Transition 2
Comments: Didn't want to run 6 miles without socks (have doone sprints sockless) so I decided to put them on in T2 instead of T1 (biking without socks is no problem) this gave me more time to recover btwn bike and run which would be helpful instead of more time btwn swim and bike which I don't really need. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Had no idea how I'd do on an oly run. Wanted to keep my pace in the 9's for the entire run. In the fifth mile it slipped into the 10's and I couldn't bring it back down, but still happy to keep that I kept my run time under an hour. After the turnaround everything was beginning to hurt, kept pushing myself as much as I could. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, need more training for this distance. Post race
Event comments: Sarah Reinertsen, first above the knee amputee Ironman finisher, was at the race, gave a very inspiratiional speech the night before at the pasta dinner. Got to met her and got a pic with her. As for the race, This wasmy first Oly, definitely pushed my limits further than I ever have before, if there's a body part that doesn't hurt I haven't found it yet. Did the race with a sore achillies and a swollen ankle so didn't push it as much I feel I coud have (especially the bike) so looking forward to my next oly (did I just say that). Woke up at the hotel had oatmeal using the coffee maker for hot water. Had bagel then banana later. Packed the car and checked out. Got to venue good and early like I like to.
Had a tender ans swollen achilles all week so I wanted to keep my running to a minimum so no run warmup. Biked for twenty minutes and then got on the wetsuit and swam the sprint course (400 yd) for warm up.
