Pre-race routine:

Awake at 6am. Dressed and out the door by 6:30. Ate breakfast of clif bar and orange juice on drive to event.
Event warmup:

Didn't ride or run to warmup. Swam about 200 yards about 15 minutes prior to start time.
Swim
  • 10m 1s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Passed a few people, so that threw off my rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to flip turn for pool swims, lost a lot of time on my turns. Need to continue to improve breathing. Last 150 yards were clear and I should have pushed a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Thought transition was good. Decided not to put on long sleeve top, which was a good choice. No problems getting everything on and out to the bike start.
Bike
  • 40m 16s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Passed several people and kept a pretty good pace. My cadence sensor was dropping in and out which annoyed me. Had some issues when in my lowest gear, it would go back up a gear and then back down. Need to have it adjusted and didn't ever have this problem in training.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could go harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Racked bike in wrong spot (wrong side of towel), so had to move it.
What would you do differently?:

Rack bike in right spot.
Run
  • 24m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the part I was most worried about. The first 1000 meters, my legs felt heavy, but right before the bridge, I started getting a good feel for it and had a really good run. Hit my goal time exactly.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked with friends, ate some oranges, and then went and put on dry clothes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to do a better job of warming up. I'll be sure to ride and run some before my next race.

Event comments:

This was my second triathlon and the other one was a couple of years ago. I think I have more speed in each of the areas, so I'm looking forward to the rest of my races this year.
