Swim
Comments: First OWS and the water was very rough. I had trouble with my breathing due to the waves. After the second turn, we were swimming with the waves and was able to swim smoother, however I got off course and swam some extra distance. What would you do differently?: More practice in the lake. A nice smooth pool is much easier to navigate. Once I rounded the last buoy and was coming back in, I didn't sight enough and veered to the right. Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad transition, had a little trouble getting wetsuit off. Into shoes, helmet and out on course pretty quick after that. Bike
Comments: More work to be done here. I love to bike so I've got to get my speed up. I pushed harder than two weeks ago and had a better time, so I'm improving, but I think I can go faster. What would you do differently?: More training on the bike Transition 2
Comments: Would have been a good transition, but I left my race belt closed and I wasted time unhooking it and then panicked and tried to connect it behind me rather than in front. What would you do differently?: Have race belt unhooked and put on in front then turn it around. Run
Comments: Nice run course through the woods. Uphill to first turn around, then back downhill past start and uphill to front of park. Short flat area in sun on sidewalk to second turn around and then back into park for mostly downhill finish. Legs were a bit tired from pushing a little harder on bike, but was only 33 seconds slower than two weeks ago. They didn't have mile markers (or else I missed them), so that affected me since I couldn't tell what my pace was. What would you do differently?: Buy a GPS watch?? Post race
Warm down: Ate some oranges and banana and drank water they handed out at finish. Watch a couple of friends come in from run. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike and run went as expected. Need more OWS practice and swim practice in general. Event comments: Second race of the year and really liked the course. I'll definitely do this one again next year and see how my second year of training pays off. Lots of volunteers at all the turns, cross streets, etc. Last updated: 2013-02-28 12:00 AM

Up at 5:45 and out the door by 6:15. Arrived before 7am, unloaded and rode down to the transition area. Set up transition area, picked up chip and came back to warm-up.
Went out on bike and at the entrance to the park, chain came off at the front. Found that the shifter cable had come undone. Reset chain and went back to transition area. Got help from bike tech in VW Bug (Big Thank You), rode for a few minutes to check the bike out and then went for a short run. Got into wetsuit and went down to the water for a very quick swim.
