Pre-race routine:

Workd all day, grabbed a clif bar and a bottle of gatorade before the race, Wanted to use this riace as a tune-up for the 1/2 IM next weekend. Practice transitions, etc. No plan to go as hard as I could
Event warmup:

Swam for about 5 min to get used to the wetsuit. First time in it since last September
Swim
  • 07m 7s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me, especiallysince it was the first time in the wetsuit in over 6 months. Forgot how much glide you get. Just swam easy the entire way. Sighting was good and really swam a good straight line.
What would you do differently?:

swim harder
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

no problem getting wetsuit off. Made sure I used lots of body glide
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 32m 25s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Distance based on bike computer. Felt good the whole way on the bike. No problems with the hills Was riding with a group of about 6 on the second lap, got dropped and never saw them again. The new wheels are awesome, much faster than the old ones, plus they accelerate so much faster after a turn.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Didn't really hurry here
Run
  • 23m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Found legs right out of transition. One guy caught up to me about a mile in, adn we ran together for about 1.5 miles. He's doing LP in a few weeks. We chatted about bikes, etc. Made the time go fast. Last 1/2 mile, I dropped the hammer and left him behind, and caught and passed one other person. Finished with a lot left in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder
Post race
Warm down:

Some gaterade 10 min. of stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1/2 IM next weekend

Event comments:

I was rather surprised to find out I finsihed 16th overall. I don't think I've ever been in teh top 20 in any race, triathlon or running, that I have done. I think my goal will be to break into the top 10 this year. Great little race, and you can't beat the price of $15.
