Pre-race routine:

Forgot my wetsuit at home that morning, so I had to make a mad dash to the house. Got to the pond in time to stand in a good sized registration line. Registered, laid my stuff out, put on the sunscreen and wetsuit, and grabbed the swim cap and goggles.
Event warmup:

None--not enough time.

Comments:

Got out to a pretty good start, keeping with a group of people, although I had a hard time finding anyone to draft off of. The first lap was pretty good. The end of the first lap my navigation started to suffer. I was getting a little frustrated, because there was a woman breast stroking the entire way, and keeping up with me! Running around the bouy, I felt like The second lap, I was navigating like a drunken sailor. On the way out, the wind had kicked up the chop a bit more, so I had waves crashing over my head, making breathing more challenging. It was at this point I realized I had forgotten to put bodyglide on my arms. On the way back, I was just all over the place. I couldn't figure out whether the few people who were heading the other direction and were to my right were on the wrong side of me, or I was on the wrong side of them. Either way, not good.
What would you do differently?:

Sight more often and remember the bodyglide!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

This transition went smoother than last time. Not terribly eventful, although the high-ankle socks are a bit more work to pull on. Took a quick sip of water before leaving transition.
What would you do differently?:

Wear shorter socks.

Comments:

As usual, took my legs a little while to warm up, and I got a side stitch early on. Once I worked through that, I felt pretty strong throughout the run, and repeatedly reminded myself that I needed to take it easy with my race this weekend. I had to stop at one point to adjust my timing strap, cause the darn thing was digging into my ankle, and my arms were pretty well chaffed, so my form was probably not the best ;) , but all in all an OK run.
What would you do differently?:

Get a neoprene timing chip strap, and remember the body glide on my arms!!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and hung out with the BT crew! Even won a pilates session in the raffle--go me!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed training on the run.

Event comments:

Once again, a great mid-week practice race!
