Pre-race routine:

Got up around 4:45. Loaded the bikes in the rain. Had 1/2 avocado and coffee on the way.
Event warmup:

Cold once we got there. We had to park a ways out. LONG wait to get into the pool.
Swim
  • 6h 13m 3s
  • 328 yards
  • 1h 53m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first pool swim (wouldn't be sad if it were my last). Hard to pass people, one lady wouldn't get out from behind me, kept grabbing my foot. Overall a really sub-par swim. I didn't breath well, form went out the window. Glad it was only 300m.
What would you do differently?:

Focus more on form and breathing, stop worrying about other people around me.
Transition 1
  • 03m 52s
Comments:

Took my time in T1 due to it being cold. Put on long sleeve shirt and wind-breaker. I ended up having the right amount of layers . . . I wouldn't change anything.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 47m 14s
  • 12.6 miles
  • 16.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty cool in the beginning. Had a lot of trouble getting new shoes into the clips, but overall didn't cost me much time.
Headed east was great - very fast. Coming west was a nightmare. Some significant hills (for someone who doesn't have a lot of hills to train on), and wind was gnarly.
Was able to flying dismount without killing myself or anyone else (although got careless and drifted left when taking shoes off, guy had to pass me on the right. He didn't cuss me at least).
What would you do differently?:

Hill intervals during training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Good transition. Had to run up a hill with bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 12s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 14s  min/km
Comments:

Not a bad run. Took about 1/2 mile to get my legs under me, but overall not bad. Not really fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

About 10 lbs above desired race weight. Didn't train too much.

Event comments:

Fun race to start the season. Cold, but that's to be expected due to time of year. I'd do it again.
