Pre-race routine:

5am wake up. Drank coffee and ate a bar during hour drive. Relaxed and enjoyed sunrise with DH. Changed shoes and shirt in parking lot.
Event warmup:

Had about 15 min after going through the potty line and being amused by two "Chatty Cathy" runners. Stretched and ran down trail a bit. Got back and joined DH at start.

Comments:

Enjoyed not having to deal with traffic on this course! Started out with a sub 10 pace for first 4miles. Started slowing with the bridge underpasses. Stopped to help a stroller racer when she dropped strawberries along the path. She was awesome...passed me, fell behind, then passed me again. Gave fives when we went by each other and then she cheered for me at the finish :) Took a Gu between 7-8. Around mile 10 my quads started tightening (not sure why...hills?) Not horrible but I paused to stretch a couple of times. Definitely slowed me down. Trailed a man (late 50s) by 10-20ft for last 4 miles. Almost passed him coming off bridge in sight of finish. I backed off...would've gained a few seconds, but quads hurt. Figured I didn't need injury since already had my PR and wouldn't have moved me up in AG and only one OA. Sooo happy to see DH waiting for me at finish after his PR!
What would you do differently?:

ooops...Slow down for first water station. Kinda choked into coughing fit at mile 2. :/
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched...then sat and stretched. Water, banana, bagel. Basked in my PR happiness. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore quads last 3 miles.

Event comments:

This was their inaugural race. Hope they had a good enough turnout to do it again next year.

Course: Nice paved trail/path down one side of river and up the other. A little narrow at times and decline/inclines under several bridges. Around mile 8 before turn-around, hit a 2mi section of gravel.
