Pre-race routine:

Drove up Friday. Got checked in and sat through athlete briefing. Went to race site and did a short bike and swim. Dropped bike off and drove the course. Sleep was off and on. Woke up around 3 and made French toast. Parents picked me up at about 4:15 and we drove to the race site. Got there about 10 minutes before transition opened. Setup nutrition on bike and transition area. Went back to car for a bit. About 6:15 went and got in line for porta-potty. Pros went off at 7 and my wave was at 7:23. Had a GU about 15 minutes before we got into the water
Event warmup:

A bit of dynamic stretching of my arms. Air was too cold for me to get into the water first.
Swim
  • 37m 21s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I somehow ended up in the front and quickly got ran over. Goggles didn't have a tight seal so I ended up stopping about 100m in to fix them once they were fixed no issues.
What would you do differently?:

not be in front and swim a bit faster
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

About a 1/4 run from water exit through transition and out.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster?
Bike
  • 2h 49m 58s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.79 mile/hr
Comments:

when people say Muncie is a flat fast course, they are not lying. I trained on a bike path that was a railroad track; so it's really flat, but I absolutely flew on this course

Stopped at last aid station before turn around to use the porta-potty.

Nutrition was concentrated infinit; a gu halfway and water. Around 1100 or so calories consumed. took a sip of inifinit every 10 minutes after the first 20 minutes; stopped around mile 50.
What would you do differently?:

Tri bike, aero helmet, race wheels? Better fitness?
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Good. took shoes off on bike, so just jumped off bike and ran into T2.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster?
Run
  • 2h 23m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

I hate running. Took ice water at each aid station and filled my water bottle. Dumped water on me while running and drank some as well. Took a Gu around mile 5 and mile 9. Had coke at miles 10 and 11.
Ran majority of the course; Started walking aid stations on way back. Walked 2 other times for a few seconds either right after or up a hill.

My cadence was only 80; so pretty low..
What would you do differently?:

Suffer more;

Work on getting my slow jog cadence up. My sprint/fast pace cadence is good.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around, get free food (burger, cookie, ice cream, coke & water)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight .. I need to lose the extra 25-30 pounds that I still haven't lost.

Event comments:

Definitely enjoyed the race. Couldn't have asked for better weather.

Once again can't win the race in the swim.. many many people had slower swim time and were ahead of me. Went from top 1/4 in AG to MOP to BOP from swim to bike to run..

Ranks in report are cumulative at end of event instead of individual event ranking.

The finish was definitely more emotional than I anticipated. My goal was sub 6 hours and once I realized that I would be under and not just squeeze it just hit me.
