Run
Comments: Because of injury! this was the first stand alone road race I had done in about 1.5 years. I have been trying to keep my training pace nice and easy to avoid further injury, so I had no idea what type of pace I would be capable of keeping. My hamstring has also been a little twingy lately, so the plan was to try to keep a pace just a bit faster than training. However, once I got going I got caught up in the race and kept a bit faster pace than planned. It is nowhere near what my PR pace is, but I am quite happy with the result. As I was running I kept picking out people ahead of me to catch and pass. The people I picked usually were women wearing pink or some frilly outfit. I was able to catch and pass everyone I selected. With about 1.5 miles to go I passed the last woman on my hit list and then was almost immediately passed by Joe. His passing made me pick up the pace a bit to try and hold on to him. He got away pretty easily, but trying to keep up for a bit stopped me from slowing down the last mile. In fact, my splits were consistent the entire race. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I am happy with we're i am now. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed water, walked around and spoke to a few people then headed into the VIP area to get the Panera supplied goodies and Dog fish head beer :) That's right, VIPs got good beer, not some crappy bear like PBR (spartan race I'm talking to you). The great unwashed masses got no beer. Too bad this wasn't a longer race or a hotter day because there was no limit to the amount of beer you could have, but somehow I couldn't see/ stomach more than one glass. Waited around for Jancie to finish, then eat/ drink her stuff then left. Event comments: Track Shack puts on most of the local races and all the Disney World races, so they know what they are doing and put on a great event. Last updated: 2013-03-23 12:00 AM

Janice came to pick me up at 6 because she wanted to get into a certain parking lot. Turned out it was a perfect spot, so I guess I should stop thinking we got there way too early for our 7:30 race start.
Since we were there so early we had time to walk around the venue and then go into Panera for coffee. At about 7:10 we went out to hit the porta potties - the line in Panera was too long. Since we paid the extra $10 for the VIP treatment, we had porta potties in our VIP section with a very short line. Even with that limited access they were gross. How can people not get the TP in the pot?
Then we heard thunder. Then the rain came, first nothing too bad and then it started to pour. Luckily, since this race is held in the middle of town, we were able to duck under the businesses' overheads to mainly stay out of the rain. The rain was close to being over by the time I headed to the start. Janice and her running group people waited a bit longer since they were going to start towards the back anyway.
