Run
Comments: The first mile felt - a-may-zing. Despite my Dad's funeral being the day before I was able to start strong. I tried to start slow but then decided I felt so good I needed to get going. Second mile I got in behind the teams and younger age groupers and fell off the pace some. Despite working harder on the third mile, the hills took a lot off my pace and I was a little slower still. What would you do differently?: Nothing really Transition 1
Comments: Putting on too many layers and I hadn't practiced this enough this year. Had to stop to mount my bike. What would you do differently?: practice transition more Bike
Comments: Just couldn't deal with with the nasty wind today - sucked everything out of my legs just dealing with it. What would you do differently?: Not sure - I definitely need to work on hills more and build up more strength. Transition 2
Comments: Again with the wind and cold temps there was just too much gear to deal with in transition What would you do differently?: comfort vs. speed - I'm not sure. I do need to practice before the next race. Run
Comments: This is the leg where losing the extra 10 lbs really showed up for me. The course runs backwards from the first run so it starts with a long down hill and finishes with a series of moderate uphill runs to the finish. Usually I am dying by the end of the second mile, this year I had a negative split! What would you do differently?: Nothing - perfect second run for this part of the season. Post race
Warm down: Ate one of Kevin O'Conner's hot dogs and a bottle of water. Cheered for my wife - I'm paying for it a little tonight. What limited your ability to perform faster: My father dying Event comments: Having Kevin and Gear west serving Dogs made a big difference this year - really good on a cold windy day. The volunteers were friendly, the music was good and the course is as good as it gets for a Du. Can't say enough to encourage people to attend. If all 350 had shown up Randy might have needed more port-a-potties however. Last updated: 2013-03-23 12:00 AM

Woke up 45 min prior to time required to get to transition at the opening. Nuked two eggs made toast with butter and jam. left a little early and got to the event right on time. Pumped up the bike tires and brought them to transition area. One hour prior to race ate a PBJ Picked up packets, urinated and headed out for warm-ups
Took the bike out for a quick mile to check the tires and gearing - no issues but the wind just about took my breath away on the way back to transition. After re-racking, Renee and I went out for a 1 mile warm up run and practiced running into transition.
