Swim
Comments: I swam well for the first 150 yards. Somewhere near or after the first turn, someone swam over me and I completely panicked. I lost my breathing and the suit felt like it was choking me. It took a few seconds to regroup and realize that I was ok. What would you do differently?: Definitely spend more time in the pool and more time in open water with the wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Since this was my first tri, I rode my mountain bike. I didn't leave my heavy old MTB shoes attached to the bike. I put Yankz into them and it was pretty easy jumping into them in transition. All things considered, this wasn't a disaster for a first timer. What would you do differently?: I need more practice getting out of the wetsuit. Also, I'd like a road bike or tri-bike so that I can really keep up. Bike
Comments: This wasn't so bad on a mountain bike, but it really made me want something faster. I passed a few people, but there is nothing like the sound of a tri-bike approaching for a pass. What would you do differently?: Upgrade my gear and always train more! Transition 2
Comments: This transition felt much better than T1. Since I had my breathing under control, I was able to think clearly and get what I needed. What would you do differently?: I would remember to take EVERYTHING out of my shoes before starting the race. I found a couple of GU's in my shoes in transition. Probably cost me 5-10 seconds. Run
Comments: My legs felt pretty heavy during the first half mile. After that I loosened up but still found it difficult to push the pace. I had expected an 8:30 pace, but ended up a little slower due to fatigue. What would you do differently?: More bricks! Post race
Warm down: Chocolate milk!!!! Mostly, I stood around and smiled, took a few pictures, and celebrated with other first-timers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Since this was my first race, only my training held me back. Event comments: This is a GREAT first race! It's not too big so there wasn't a lot of thrashing in the water. Everyone was very supportive and there was a HUGE group of first-timers. I highly recommend this race for anyone considering a triathlon! Last updated: 2013-03-23 12:00 AM

This was my first tri so I spent my pre-race trying to watch everyone else to see what they were doing. I spoke to a few people and got some advice. All in all, it was pretty uneventful.
I didn't really warm up. No one was in the water so I just got dressed and relaxed.
