Total Time = 1h 19m 16s
Overall Rank = 65/509
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/34
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition. Envision each leg of the race and transitioning in between. Eat approximately 1 hour before swim start and continue hydrating.
Event warmup:

1 mile run. Activate muscles doing dynamic stretching.
Swim
  • 05m 57s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was absolutely freezing. When I hit the water it literally took my breath away. My muscles froze up. It took me around 30 seconds to be able to take a breath. I could not get into a rhythm and ended up swimming like Johnny Weissmuller(He is the reason we have the tarzan drill look it up). I know if I would have had my wetsuit I would have swam at least a full minute quicker and that is being modest. Most likely 1:30 quicker.
What would you do differently?:

Wear a wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Great transition. I could have been a little quicker. It took me about 10 seconds to get on my tri top. I had my shoes positioned already on the bike, ran it to the mount line, and successfully completed a flying mount and rode off.
What would you do differently?:

Open the velcro on my tri shoes when I put them on my bike. I forgot to and it took me a little longer to get into the once riding.
Bike
  • 40m 20s
  • 14.7 miles
  • 21.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike course. A lot of fun. I did very well with my pacing and keeping a high cadence.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder. I felt like I kept it too comfortable trying not to red line before the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Great transition as far as getting my bike gear off and running gear on.
What would you do differently?:

NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM IN T2!!! I counted the seconds as I made the pit stop. It cost me 30 seconds extra, which would have put me on the podium in my division!!
Run
  • 28m 45s
  • 4.1 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run overall. Great job keeping a high cadence of around 170-180 spm.
What would you do differently?:

Ran faster. I feel I could have dropped my pace by approx 30 seconds per mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, get in some nutrition and fluids, stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No wetsuit in the swim, bathroom break in T2, and not drinking enough fluids.

Event comments:

I would give it a 5, but I have nothing to compare it to as this was my first triathlon.
