Pre-race routine:

No taper as this is purely a training day. Rode the bike a relatively easy 26 miles yesterday. Got up at 4AM, left the house at 4:45 and made the 2 hour drive over to Biloxi. Frank and Dave passed us in the element about halfway there. Frank mooned us. I was driving and couldn't convince Marcy to moon them back. Got there an hour before start.
Event warmup:

Did a 5 minute jog to warm up about 15 minutes before the race. This was my first race with the disc wheel cover so I tripled checked it to make sure it was okay.

Comments:

Good run for me. My target time was 27 minutes and I was real close. Marcy went out with me and we ran together most of the way. She put a little distance on me in the last mile but we were close. Felt good the whole way. My placing is an estimate. I think I counted 16 behind me from the turnaround.

Comments:

Jumped on bike and headed down the hill quickly. I noticed the velcro on my water bottle was undone and I had to adjust it while riding. This is kinda tricky but I did it in the aero bars. I just made a new velcro strap and it worked fine yesterday. I gotta fix that. Coming into the first turn there was a girl down and I thought she had crashed, I braked going into the turn and came unclipped. She said, she was fine and to keep going. I was a little frustrated with myself but I buckled down and gave the power meter a look. I was in the 230's which I was happy with after a 3 mile run. I checked the meter and any time I went under 220 I pushed. I was 25 second slower than I was on this course last month. My bike time relative to my buddies was normal and they all said the wind was bad on the way back. No bike rankings but I passed 55 bikes. When I put the bike on the car rack I noticed the bike tire was flat. I don't think it happened in the race but who knows.
What would you do differently?:

Solve the velcro problem with a rubber band. Spend 15 minutes practicing corners and turns during the week before any race.
Transition 2

Comments:

Since you ride almost to your rack i didn't take feet out of pedals. When i pulled off shoe, the sock came off and that unnerved me a little. Still pretty quick at 37 seconds.

Comments:

I love having to run 1 mile at the end. Race 2 in the series has the run split 2 and 2, this one is 3 amd 1. I came off the bike not knowing where my nemisis was. I am usually ahead of him after the bike and he runs me down in the last 50 yards. I made the turnaround and he was 30 seconds behind me. I pushed very hard and with 100 yards to go saw Marcy coming in, she said hurry he's gaining on you. I turned it up going up the last hill and crossed the line. Turned around and he was 36 seconds back. We have raced this course together at least 6 times and we are usually within 10 seconds of each other. I was only passed by 4 on this run.
Post race
Warm down:

just watched people finish while drinking gator ade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Couple of mental errors on the bike but generally a good race. With Ironman training in motion I can't taper and I don't do much speed work so the results are what they are. I was 36 seconds faster than I was a month ago despite being 20 seconds slower on the bike.

Event comments:

3 race series and its $10. No race competes in value to this series. Lots of good friends at the race and our gang got alot of trophies so we get to cheer alot.

I have noticed that my age group is always the biggest and the toughest in this race. 16 out of 116 racers were in my age group. They also are the strongest. Overall first, second, fourth and fifth were in my AG.
