Run
Comments: The course was short. The Garmin measured 5.88mi which converts to 9.46km. There is no way I averaged 8:36min/mile - 9:06 is much more plausible. Mile 1: Out of Diefenbaker Park in the crowd. I tried to start slow and stuck to my guns as everyone seemed to pass me. Mile 2: Into the residential part of the run shaded by huge ash and elm trees. Twenty minutes into the run, the fastest runners passed by on their return. Mile 3: The first tough incline was at Rotary Park where the course took us up to Victoria Avenue and then down again, only to have the turnaround on the the Broadway Bridge with a much steeper and longer uphill. Ouch! Mile 4: Down at the turnaround point and up again at Broadway. Mile 5: Back through the shade and then up the slight hill past the radio station. Mile 6: The home stretch. Along a bumpy gravel road where there was no hiding from the sun. Had to watch your step and focus harder than you'd want to. Finally, the finish was in sight. Passed Mum. Crossed the finish just as a man and woman each with their jogging strollers were about to pass me. I think they actually did. How embarrassing. What would you do differently?: My left heel was bugging me but didn't slow me down - I need to take care of it though. (I think it's plantar fasciitis because of my weight gain. Just hoping it's not a heel spur but I'll be watching it closely). Last updated: 2006-06-19 12:00 AM

Up at 645. Small bran muffin and banana for breakfast. Sipped on a coffee and water on the way to the race. Walked the mile to race start.
Walked around.
