Pre-race routine:

Nothing special. Had a rough time getting started with a bad night sleep.
Event warmup:

Finally got a good warmup in before a race. My right knee was hurting from yesterday's runfest but after 20 min jogging with 5-6 quick pickups, everything felt fine.
Run
  • 15m 38s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 06m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Put out a nice effort, a real lung screamer. Spent the whole run chasing one guy who was going a little faster than I planned to go. Really glad he was there because there was a big gap to the guys going 6 min and under. If I tried to hang with them I would have been toast.

This time I started nearer the front of the corral, maybe 4 back and that was perfect. I've been giving up too much time on gun-starts.

  • 19.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Made a bone head move on this one. I was hearing a strange rubbing and thought it was a break pad. Pulled over after the 1st mile to check it out. The wheels were spinning fine so got back going. Probably cost me 1 minute and 2-3 overall places.

The noise kept up until the 5th loop when I realized it was my bib rubbing on my trisuit legs. Ugg, forgot to spin the racebelt around to the back. Lesson learned...

After stopping, I spent the next 3 laps chasing Adam, from Bikeway, but he eventually dropped my for good and all.

What would you do differently?:

It was a decent ride but I was far too frustrated.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Run
  • 16m 53s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 06m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I was out of steam on this one and never really hit a rhythm. No specific pain or lack of breath, just couldn't turn them over too quickly. At least for the last 1/2 mile I knew no one was catching me and I couldn't catch the guy in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Dress lighter. I had to strip on the go and carry arm warmers and jersey the whole way. It wasnt that cold on the bike, so I should have skipped them.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and chatted with Dawn and Adam from bikeway.

Event comments:

I like this race organization, but didnt love the bike course. Maybe a crit racer would like it more, but I dont know if this will be a go-to race for me.

182 watts. Blahhhh. Even with a 1 min break, thats 186. Not great but I was pushing it.
Wind: Little
Course: 6 "loops" mostly in the park. There were 3 sharp turns you had to slow down for. And the kicker was a toll booth with gravel and a speed bump. Not a course to PR on, but okay.
