Comments: I wasn't able to run or see the route before hand, which I definitely prefer to do, but I just wanted to give it my all and see what happens. Considering the hills, I'm very happy with the consistency of my splits, with the exception of the last miles. I really felt like I started to fade there. I was a bit surprised to see my cadence was below 90 and that is definitely something I need to get higher next time. I really focused on just taking on 1 mile at a time. I knew I would be somewhere around 1:20 so I would justify how much further I had to go passed on that. I HR was pretty high throughout, but I just kept pushing. The 6th place guy started to catch me in the last mile and I was really nervous that I wasn't going to be able to hold him off. However, I did manage a strong kick and was able to keep 5th. Splits: 1: 6:06 2: 6:12 3: 5:55 4: 6:14 5: 6:14 6: 5:59 7: 6:04 8: 6:10 9: 6:09 10: 6:20 11: 6:08 12: 6:29 13: 6:19 .1: 0:27 What would you do differently?: Increase my cadence and make sure I keep it at 90+, especially on the second half of the race.
