Swim
Comments: I felt strong, but not necessarily fast. The conditions really favored an open water swimmer, as there was just enough chop to be a challenge. I pushed myself to get clear before the first buoy, and found myself swimming through lots of people from the other wavers. I felt good, but didn't "settle" into my stroke for a while. What would you do differently?: Swim more, I hadn't been doing any regular swimming since San Juan. Transition 1
Comments: Such a BIG Transition area. Jogged to my bike, two steps to get off the wetsuit, then helmet on. Not bad. What would you do differently?: Not much, run a little faster. Bike
Comments: Solid bike for me. The magnet fell off my rear wheel, so no speed or power numbers after the first 12 minutes. However, I still had cadence and HR, so that helped. Plus, I have a good sense of this course since it is similar to escape, and the same thing happened there and I had a decent ride. What would you do differently?: Better glue for magnet. Transition 2
Comments: Funky legs getting off the bike, but felt good. Not too bad with the socks. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: AWESOME PR FOR ME!!! I had run 50 something at this race 3 years ago, and wasn't sure I had it in me. I had a solid race and am thrilled! Stayed strong, good management of my pace. Thrilled with the results!! What would you do differently?: More training! Post race
Warm down: Lots of heavy breathing, drink some water. Should have stretched. Found some friends and chatted. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training? I wasn't sure I was in good shape, but the mental freedom of eliminating my expectations made this a great race. Event comments: Love this race. Big race and local. Plus, I really like the distance. Wake up, eat Pop-Tarts, sunscreen, chamois cream, race kit and mental checklist.
Rode my bike 3 miles to the start. 1 Mile walk to swim start and some easy strokes in the water.
