Age Group Rank = 8/31
Pre-race routine:

Stayed with Bill and Shirley in Tullahoma. Ate my usual pre-race muffins got to transition around 6:00. ONce again, I was way too early but I wanted to get in a good warmup and save a few spots in transition for Nick, Kellie, Heath.
Event warmup:

Light jog then 50-100m swim.
Swim
  • 18m 29s
  • 1056 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

The worst part for the swim was my start time. Due to a deferred registration, the RD used my swim time from last year. Well, last year was my 1st triathlon and I put a slow time. I was number 334 in the water. Since I went in so late, there was a huge cluster at the 1st turn. Really had to fight my way through people for the first 400m. The swim was choppy and I swallowed a lot of water, but I was pretty pleased with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Change my registration swim time.
Transition 1
  • 203m
Comments:

Very good T1 for me. I expected to see a higher time. It seemed like it took me forever.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe train without socks for a sprint distance race.
Bike
  • 45m 14s
  • 16.11 miles
  • 21.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Did exactly what I wanted to do, and that was to make up ground by hammering the bike. I didn't go as hard as I could have. I wanted to try and leave something for the run. For me to place 4th in AG, with a competitive field, is a huge confidence builder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good T2
Run
  • 33m 6s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I kinda expected this. My runs have just sucked lately. After a good first mile, I noticed that my HR was in the 180s so I walked for 10-15 seconds. That dropped it a little. I slowed down my pace, but I still averaged 178 for the whole run. I just need to get into better run shape. The only way that I'll place higher is to get better run splits.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Awesome Post-Race! I hung out with MTMS guys, drank a few beers, and had some good food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of run training.

Event comments:

I loved this race. Really fun course and great post race. The wind made things a little more difficult, but was manageable. I'll definitely be back next year.
