Pre-race routine:

Woke up at an ungodly hour (4:30am) to catch the train into Manhattan and meet up with my sister. Ate plain oatmeal with fresh strawberries and a small cup of coffee on the way down.
Event warmup:

Walked about 1/2 mile to the start/registration area from my sister's apartment. No time for more of a warm-up. This event kicked off right on time.

What would you do differently?:

I should practice drinking from the water stations while running. I nearly drowned taking a sip of water.
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade, a piece of a bagel, and then off to the diner!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my training. This was my first time running a 10k. Also, there was some congestion at the beginning, mostly due to people lining up forward of their assigned place.

Event comments:

The staff was great. NYRR is a very efficient operation. My only complaint, if it even counts, is that runners lined up far ahead of their assigned groups. I passed several walkers and fall-outs in the first mile. If people were honest with themselves the traffic would have been less and our times a little better. Bag pipers along the course were cool and the finish line made everyone feel like they won the race. Overall we had a blast.

Performance: Good
The first mile was very slow (9:55 pace) as we worked through all of the people who lined up way ahead of their pace group. Hear rate was relatively steady until the last mile, when it peaked (mostly because this was my longest race so far).
Course: The course is great. They describe it as "deceptively challenging," but I think it's just right. There are two decent hills but, in my mind, that should be a part of every race. Running Central Park is great.
