Swim
Comments: Slightly better than expected given first swim at such a cold temp. Glad I spent extra time getting warmed up in the water while most people stood in line on the dock. Booties and Neo cap were a big help. Sighting has improved greatly over the past 3 races. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe use ear plugs Transition 1
Comments: I was pretty dizzy from the swim (almost fell over getting suit off), but still impressed with my T1 time. My legs felt great after the swim (surprisingly) and i just took off. glad I kept my T1 spot relatively free of clutter-- it was a lot less confusing trying to get the suit off. 2nd time riding with no socks. Didnt' pre-clip shoes on the bike even though i thought abotu it. Glad I didn't given my dizziness-- it was good to just get on the bike and go without worrying abotu the shoes. What would you do differently?: Not sure-- maybe gotten out of suit faster if more stable? Bike
Comments: PR Bike time! First race using Hed Jet 6 wheels-- what a great investment! Also, i have focused on leg strength/ "Force" over the past 3 months. Hamstrings did not fatigue as was my problem last year; my hips and lower back got a little tight, though. Focused on cadence only-- didn't look at the distance or pace on my Garmin at all during the race. What would you do differently?: Would like to have an aero-bottle system for plain water, and keep Roctane in normal bottle on frame or back. Transition 2
Comments: Felt great here-- can't think of anything i would have done differently, maybe differnt dismount? What would you do differently?: If there had been no turn into the parking lot, i woudl have clipped out and done a running dismount. Run
Comments: PR 5k time! Felt better than i thought i would-- I'm 15 pounds lighter than the last time i ran a 5k and I was very well-rested on Sunday. What would you do differently?: Wish I would have pushed harder going out-- but I'm glad I didn't because I was able to push (sustainably) hard coming back from the turnaround. Would have skipped water altogether (or maybe only had one sip going out and none coming back)-- this slowed me down a few seconds. Post race
Warm down: Water and pizza and more water and then more pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't know. On a distance-adjusted basis, this race was a PR by approx 17 minutes over my previous best Sprint race. Event comments: Overall an awesome race. The recent change to 220 pounds for the Clydesdale limit was a boon for me as I'm just above that currently in my ongoing weight loss program. Will prob be in 30-34 AG by the fall. The weather was beautiful, my mind was in the right place, and i set appropriate expectations and also made decent decisions about how to pace myself-- when to go hard and when to hold back. Hope i have more races like this one! Last updated: 2013-04-09 12:00 AM

Woke, drank hot tea, ate banana on way to event (2 hours before start). Arrived at event site 1:45 before event start.
Rode bike 1-2 miles to get legs loosened up, then got in water earlier than most in my wave to adjust to cold temp.
