Swim
What would you do differently?: Maybe swim a little harder. I think I've held back on the swim a bit in both of my races this year to not get out of the water and be completely wiped out. In retrospect, I think I could have probably given it a little more on this one given the distance is so short. Transition 1
Comments: T1 tends to be a bit slow for me - something I probably should work on. What would you do differently?: Maybe not dry off my feet at all. It probably adds 10 seconds to my time and with the water that runs down my legs, my socks get soaked anyway. Bike
Comments: Man that wind was a b*tch on the way out. I pushed pretty hard knowing that I'd get the tailwind on the way home. Thought I might suffer for that on the run, but it didn't seem to have much of a effect. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot. This was my strongest leg of the day. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty happy with my T2 time. Not much room to shave time here aside from just running faster which I'm always working on! :P What would you do differently?: Not much - this was a solid T2 - no real wasted time here. Run
Comments: At least my Age Group Rank for the run wasn't dead last! Damn, I could be dangerous at these things if I could run faster! What would you do differently?: I probably had a little more gas in the tank for this segment too. I wish I would have pushed it just a bit harder - would have LOVED to be sub 1:20 and all I needed was 7 seconds. Post race
Warm down: Walked around quite a bit and chatted with all my tri club buds, while we waited for the timing mess to get sorted out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tired legs. I did not go into this race with fresh legs and I felt it. On both the bike and the run, especially the run, my legs, not my lungs were the limiter. Event comments: I know what this race company is like, everything on the cheap, cutting corners where they can. However, this is my hometown (or was up until last year) and the very first tri I ever did so it's a nostalgia thing more than anything. Going into this race, I did not rest at all, of the four races I had planned, this was my "D" race. I looked at this as basically just another training day. Last updated: 2013-04-09 12:00 AM

Ate 2 hard boiled eggs and an apple on the way to the race (~ a 45-minute drive). As I was in the parking lot topping off my tires, I flatted my back tire (OF COURSE it was the back tire!). Seems the stem punctured the tire when I put the pump on. Thankfully, I've gotten pretty good at changing tires so it only cost me about 5 minutes, but I went from a leisurely state of mind, to "Oh shit, I need to get to transition and get set up!" I hate that panicky feeling. After grabbing my chip/race number and getting all Sharpied up, I got my stuff set up in transition and felt a LOT better. Had a banana and headed down to the beach.
My intention was to get in a good warm up swim, but I started chatting with an older woman who was wearing an Escape from Alcatraz tee. She's 74 and still doing tris! Anyway, I only got in maybe a hundred yard swim before the start.
