Swim
Comments: I waiting a little too long to put my wetsuit on and my wave (the first wave) was already in teh water by the time i got my suit on. I was able to get out to the start about 1 minute before the race started. I had a good swim. I felt relaxed and smooth. I think i over swam a little bit by round the corners a little too much. Only issue was hitting my foot on some concrete under the water when i jumped in. Didn't realized until the race was done that i cut my foot pretty bad. What would you do differently?: Not hurt my foot before the start. Make sure I am with my wave before the start. Transition 1
Comments: I was a little disoriented coming out of the water. I think i hit my foot on something coming out of the water as well. I used a suit stripper for removing my suit and that was quick and painless. I took some extra time in transition to take in some fluids and regain my composure. What would you do differently?: go faster. Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike for the first loop. A little bit of a head one for one direction but i felt like i was handling the wind, turns and hills well. Going into the 2nd loop I was feeling strong and felt like I was going to easily maintain my pace i set in the first loop. Then within the first quarter of the 2nd loop i lost any of my power I had left but was able to maintain a decent pace for the rest of the 2nd loop. What would you do differently?: Better pacing. It was a little hotter than i was expecting and i probably would have taken 2 bottles with me on the bike. Good thing i left a bottle in transition to drink before and after the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Everything went pretty good. took some time to drink some fluids. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Run
Comments: I was very dissatisfied with my run. My run didn't start very strong and it went downhill form there on out. started running around an 8min pace and ended around an 8:40. I was originally planning on a ~7:45min pace. I had a lot of issues with keeping cool. I tried drinking more water at the aid stations but my stomach was feeling full of water, without necessarily feeling better. I did what i could to try and reduce my temp but wasn't successful. I was afraid of heat exhaustion so i didn't try to push my pace. What would you do differently?: stay cooler and run faster. better pacing on the bike to feel better on the run. Post race
Warm down: Standing in front of the cooling fans for a good 10-15 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: heat and pacing on the bike. But this was my first olympic and my first OWS triathlon so i feel good about y overall performance. Event comments: Good race and well organized. I wish there were less U-turns on the bike course. Checked in my bike the day before, so the morning of was very easy. breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, bagel and a banana. Woke up around 4:30am, got to the venue around 6:30 with the start of race at 8am.
very little (or rather none). Unless you want to count teh mad dash to the water when i realized that my start group was already in the water at treading at tee start line.
