Swim
Comments: Time includes time from end of pool to T1 mat at transition (about 25 seconds according to my watch) The start was based on estimated swim time; with your race number being based on what was entered. They had those with numbers 1-100 up first in a group - no forced order. I was "seeded" #87; I started about 2/3 of the way back in the group. If I recall I passed 5 or 6 people; don't recall getting passed What would you do differently?: Start a little bit closer to the front to push me harder Transition 1
Comments: It was super cold out. I ran from the pool to my bike, taking googles and cap off as I ran. Pulled my pants on and put shirt on. Pin at the bottom of the sweat pants to hold them away from the chain came undone as I was putting the pants on so I had to fix that. Put socks on. Had some trouble with the bike gloves. Somebody knocked the rack down right before I was going to pull my bike off and my pedal got stuck in the guy next to me's spokes - took a little while to get it unstuck. What would you do differently?: be cold? wear tighter pants. Bike
Comments: Overall a good ride. The hills definitely slowed me down. Wasn't as fast as I was hoping I would be, but overall I did ok. Did a bunch of passing, was only passed by a few of those skinny guys riding tri bikes with race wheels.. so I don't feel bad. Slowest speed was around 8mph up a few hills; Fastest 38.4mph :-D What would you do differently?: Work on hills a bit more. Wish I had a power meter, because pedaling my 200 lbs up those hills takes some serious power. Transition 2
Comments: Took shoes off prior to dismount, no issue there other than slowed down to do it. Almost dropped bike when running with it as I tried to hit the lap button on my watch. Run
Comments: Went well. Feet were completely numb for the first mile or so. My watch has the course at about 1/10 of a mile short. PR'd the "5k" by 47 seconds compared to my last 5k race What would you do differently?: Not sure if I went all out on the run or not. HR data says I didn't but I was definitely breathing hard. Would probably try and push a bit more. My guess is I got disappointed on my bike split and kinda just phoned in the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, cheered for people. Took a shower, took bike to car. Cheered some more. What limited your ability to perform faster: COLD Event comments: Volunteers were awesome. Definitely enjoyed the race, and if it fits into my schedule next year will do it again. I definitely need to work on my run though; I was top 1/5 for the swim and bike, but my run brought me down.
