Swim
Comments: My first ever beach start. I was worried about hyperventilation and my Good swim. Water was very cold, but I didn't have breathing issues. Felt strong although navigation was tough because I wasn't familiar with the course and you couldn't see most of it from the start so I didn't know what to sight beforehand. Still I swam fairly straight with only some minor wandering around. What would you do differently?: Get better intel on the course. No complaints. Just a few seconds off of a PR. Transition 1
Comments: Huge transition area. Felt a bit sliggish in T1, probably due to cold water and first race of the season. Compared to other transition times for this race though, not bad. What would you do differently?: Could have been smoother. No big deal A bit slowish getting into shoes, but no close calls and no wrecks. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike. I had hoped I had improved more than this, but biking was my 3rd priority this winter. Given all the turning around I think I can whip out a 1:03 or so on a flat course though, so thats still an improvement if I can manage it. Nutrition felt spot on. What would you do differently?: Good pacing. Good overall bike, fading just a tad toward the end but no biggie. Probably from all the sprinting out of the U turns. Transition 2
Comments: I can usually be under 1:00 in T2, but considering the half mile run from the rack to the exit I'm generally ok with my time. Feet out of shoes a bit early, but thats OK. Dismount was a bit congested with a person or two with no idea what they were doing. I was a bit goofy getting off but I don't think it cost me much. What would you do differently?: Meh. First race of the season. No gripes. Run
Comments: I didn't feel great off the bike, but kept composed and ran steady. Can't argue even a little bit with a PR of over 3 minutes, even if being at sea level was a boost. What would you do differently?: Not a damn thing. I was out kicked at the end by a couple guys in my AG, I couldn't match them, almost barfed. They were waiting on my shoulder after I passed them with about a mile to go. I can't call it a tactical error with so many people on the course I had no idea who was in front or behind me. Besides, it was the difference between 18th and 20th in the AG so who cares. Post race
Warm down: Laid around. tried not to vomit. Drank some gatorate. Event comments: Awesome race! PR by over 10 minutes. Just missed PR on the swim and bike and massive PR on the run. Also the first time I've put together all three that quickly. Last updated: 2013-04-22 12:00 AM

Travelled to St. George on Thursday night, stayed the night and finished the drive friday morning. After arriving friday, rode from the motel down to the race and watched some of the Women's pro race, picked up packet and set up my bike.
Pre-race Italian dinner with the team and hit the sack at a fairly reasonable hour for once.
4AM wake up, didn't seem quite as early due to the 1 hr time change going west, didn't get a good night's sleep though. Kept waking up from hotel noise and worried that I slept in too late.
