Swim
Comments: Started this time in second wave, was a ton of people it seemed, stayed back didn't get trampled to much in the beginning, probably was ran over more by the other waves passing me. Although I was still extremely slow and fighting it, felt better at the end and more confident during the swim, didn't seem to go on forever like the last race What would you do differently?: just need to get out and keep practicing, especially breathing correctly, about halfway through was breathing every stroke and couldn't get a rythym. Transition 1
Comments: Thought i did fastre than time indicated, jogged up the beach at a reasonable pace, probably took to long getting socks and shoes on, also took a packet of gu and some water, proabbly should have taken the gu out and taken it then. Bike
Comments: Still have room to improve, was starting out slow to make sure I had enough at the end, in hindsight had plenty and could have picked it up more. Transition 2
Comments: Csame in pretty good, no problem rackin gbike, once again took some tim eto get gu and water at the stop instead of takin git along Run
Comments: Felt good throughout the run, though i thought i ran a faster pace than what the timei ndicated, guess I should have kicked it in sooner, also did stop at the turn around for a drink although briefly had to walk and drink, not coordinated enough to run and drink at the same time. Wa able to sprint at teh end and pass a couple people younger than me, so was nice to know I had the energy left What would you do differently?: Was jsut being overly cautious I believe since last race wasn't sure I could make it, had room to push myself faster and didn't, will for sure next time, also will wear a timing device to judge my pace. Post race
Warm down: The wet towel was great at the end, drank the bottle of gatorade, then proceeded to the beer stand with the rest of the crew, also had pizza, what more can you ask for than pizza and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: My own mental status of making sure I didn't over exert myself so I couldn't finish, have to have more faith in my conditioning and ability to finish. Event comments: Loved the overall race, will definetly do it again next year, If any changes it would be with the swim, maybe breaking down the age groups more and spacing it out every 3 minutes instead of 2, other than that was a well run race and I'm sure will get even better. Age Group Rank = 29/32
Gathered all gear together and stayed at Matt's house for the night. Got up at 3:30 loaded up and picked up Mike and followed Brian out to the race at 4:30. Arrived and set-up in transistion area, was a lot easier knowing what to expect this time.
Had an energy bar first thing when I got up, drank a bottle of water on the way to the race, and a red bull right before. Only brought water this time, no gatorade, seemed to work much better on the stomach.
