![]() Swim
Comments: The lap timers were great. I never really noticed the guy I was swimming next to. My goggles kept filling with water. What would you do differently?: Get new goggles since I was using a 10 year old pair. I forgot my swim cap so need to get that next time. I would also train a bit. This was my first time in a pool in 10 months so I didn't take any warm up laps. I felt the lack of swim fitness in sore shoulders. Still beat my PR for this distance in a pool. I could have done better. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was small jog away through a parking lot. Stepped on a pebble that hurt a bit but nothing to bad. Took the time to put on socks, got my helmet on, shoes on (mountain bike type shoes) and was good to go. Made a big mistake though, I forgot to load my water bottle on the bike. What would you do differently?: I should have remembered to load my water before the race started. This would turn out to really hurt me in the end. ![]() Bike
Comments: This was by far the fastest I have ever done a 12.5 mile bike course. Set a PR with a 19 mph average. What would you do differently?: I needed water. By the turnaround I was dehydrated. I could have gone faster going back but the lack of water hurt. I cannot forget my water. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I tried to drink water from my water bottle. The change to shoes and visor was fine. What would you do differently?: Not be dehydrated. ![]() Run
Comments: This is where my lack of water hurt. About 100 yards into the run course my left calf started to cramp. About 25 yards later my right calf did the same, I was hosed after that. I could barely muster a slow jog here and there and ended up walking most of it. Tried to get water at the aid stations but my throat was dry throughout. This is where I lost the race against the other guy in my age group. What would you do differently?: Nerves are no excuse, and my own failure to properly hydrate cost me first place. I got what I deserved in second and given that its my fist time placing at one of these I cant complain, but still. I will go faster next year. I guarantee it. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Ate oranges, bananas, and strawberries at the finishers area. I was grateful for the bottle of water handed to me at the end. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor planning. No swim training what so ever, lack of water. All these things are my fault and will be fixed for next year. Event comments: Great local race. They offer two bike courses (18 and 12.5 miles). Its at a great time if your training for something like wildflower. Great work out as you start to taper and decrease milage or if you just want to do a dry run with your equipment. This is also a great first tri. Short pool swim, flat bike and run, good low key atmosphere. Last updated: 2013-04-24 12:00 AM

Got up at normal time. Ate some oatmeal, drank orange juice and water.
Nothing besides walking around. I was way to nervous since this was my first tri in seven years.
