Total Time = 1h 18m 16s
Overall Rank = 170/351
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 29/51
Event warmup:

Walked to the bathroom. Probably should have done a little more.
Swim
  • 10m 33s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Apparently, this swim was a little more competitive than the Haleiwa Tri. I had people grabbing my ankles and trying to pull themselves up my body. I did much better job sighting this time and was swimming pretty straight while I had folks zig-zagging in front of me while I tried to pass them.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe opt to swim on the outside of the pack.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Apparently my water bin to rinse my feet off was for community use, because when I returned to my bike, someone had dropped their swimcap and goggles in it. I felt bad kicking out the interlopers, but after I rinsed my feet off in it, I was guessing they didn't want their stuff in dirty water. Overall, a much smoother evolution than last time.
What would you do differently?:

Put a lock on my water bin.
Bike
  • 31m 28s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 23.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Very straight, fairly level ride except for the hill heading into housing on the base. The steepest downhill portion is almost worthless since there is a sharp right turn at the bottom. Boo.
What would you do differently?:

Not wuss out and stay on my middle gear for the hill. With about 50 yards to go, I dropped gears and dramatically slowed down on the hill. Boo.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Smooth transition.
What would you do differently?:

Grab something to eat during this transition.
Run
  • 32m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

This course was longer than a 5K. At least assuming the mile markers on the course were right. Nothing like hitting the 3 mile mark and being able to see at least another .25 to .5 mile to go.
What would you do differently?:

Again, the nutrition piece of the race was lacking since I am on a paleo challenge. No gels hurt, so I at least should have eaten a banana or drank some coconut water somewhere on the course.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition. No real carbs the night before and none during the race really limited the energy during the run portion. It made a dramatic difference.

Event comments:

A pretty simple course and well organized. It was a lot of fun.
