Pre-race routine:

Had a coffee and bowl of porridge oats 2 hours before the event
Event warmup:

After registration everyone had to walk for about 15 minutes along a trail through the national park to get to Tea Tree Bay. Had a quick swim and lined up ready to go on the beach.

Comments:

I started a bit too slowly and kept veering off to the right. I think I was just getting used to breathing on one side. Once I had got that sorted I got into a nice rhythm and swam straight for the rest of the swim. By then the fast swimmers had formed a pack up ahead and I didn't have anyone to draft off.
Afte about 15 minutes we passed lots of swimmers from the previous wave and my swimming felt nice and relaxed which was the aim of doing this race.
I finished feeling that I could have kept going for much longer at that pace which was another aim of mine.
What would you do differently?:

Go a bit harder at the start to keep in touch with the faster swimmers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor navigation and being too cautious at the start

Event comments:

This is always a good event, my only criticism is the lack of food after and no race towel this year.
