Swim
Comments: The swim was a bit rough navigation and stroke wise. I still lose direction-and swim a bit too crowked too option and have to find my way back in. The navigation also inhibits my stroke count per breath-I worry I'll go off track. My strokes were not too strong, I was breathing too much-need to cut out any breaststroke kicks all together. Could have also rounded the buoys better-was getting stuck on their ropes. I definitely wasn't drafting either, though I don't really ever see that happening in these open water swims. What would you do differently?: Work on navigation-swim straight! Take more strokes per breath! Transition 1
Comments: I did get my wetsuit stuck on one of my heels for a second. I was actually very whoozy after the swim and at the T1. I was toward the back of the transition area-thus longer run. I was a bit slow with my gloves and shoes. I was great about trying to take off without being clipped in and trying to clip in later-though once trying to clip in it took me a minute-but better than being completely stopped. Grabbed gatorade pre swim though normally I only do that pre-run. What would you do differently?: Work on gloves better and shoes. Keep working on the clipping in. Bike
Comments: That's it buying aerobars this week and definitely using them for the rest of my tris. I think they will really help me get going on the flats and keep up that speed. I am still a bit all over the place on speed. I am getting much better with using my lowest chain ring for even lower gears (didn't really have this figured out the last two races/previous training) and they let me catch a lot more speed on downhills or when I'm moving on a flat. I'm also doing decent on hills-stop pedaling for a minute-which I have to stop-but climb well. It was overall a pretty good bike, especially with the rain pelting but I can really get moving more on the bike. What would you do differently?: Really put my legs in it and get some speed going-not give up speed and pick-it up. Transition 2
Comments: Hmmm, have never done riding with feet on top of shoes for transition, surely a good idea-but was definitely not happening here-there was a bit hill just before the dismount area. I had to completely stop and dismount. I ran with bike well. Was mounting bike just as girl directly across from me-on same space at rack was. Got my sneakers on, hat on, racing belt-which is annoying as all heck-have to fit it better-but didn't want to put a pin through my unisuit. Shot of gatorade And I was off. Could still make it a bit faster though. What would you do differently?: Maybe try this feet on top of riding shoes (without killing myself) if the ride to the dismount is flat. Work on how I'm going to wear my number. Run
Comments: I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF- I didn't stop ONCE on the run. Given I was jogging really, really slow at some parts but I didn't stop to walk once! That is soooooooooooo big for me as such the non-runner that I am. Every other race I ever done running or tri I've stopped to walk-which really messes up my momentum. I can't believe I didn't stop-big for me. What would you do differently?: Not necessarily what I'd do differently, but I've got it now-I didn't have to stop not once-now I just have to pick up on the speed (I ran a hard 3.5 miles middle of this week-only stopped a couple of times-and it was a hard fast run and I'm sure that helped). I'm get get better at this run! Post race
Warm down: No huge warm-down-just took my time walking back to transition. There was a great cookout-which they were nice enough to get a huge tent for given the rain and my boyfriend and nephew (my troopers who were manning ponchos and umbrellas) got to have some of the burgers and hot dogs and I got to cash in on the lovely watermelon they had. I took it easy after the race-lots of sitting (should do more stretching-but I'm about to some here at home). They had massage and chiro booths and I so wanted one-but I passes and will stretch it out instead. What limited your ability to perform faster: No real limits. There are a few things I need to tweek, like navigation the swim; my left pedal clip is looser than my right and that doesn't allow me to put out as much power with my left leg/foot; have to really push the bike; and the run-just gotta pick-up speed. Event comments: This race was a great one. Definitely one I'll do again. The key is definitely be there early! The field was good size and the registration line was way long. They delayed the race start 10 minutes-thankfully because some of us were still getting our numbers but it was very well run and the volunteers/staff were great. The transition area was good although pretty crowded-I barely found room on my rack. The finish line was a good one-proper finish. And I really liked that they chip-timed our transitions. The rain really, really was coming down and dry and sunny tends to be nicer but I have to say the rain-being summer rain-really keeps you cool. Just like in Webster when it also rained and hard-I was never hot. It was an overall good race and I feel like they are only getting better and better. Still not moving up far enough in the ranks-but its about my personal ranking for now-and I'm finishing and finishing better each time. I'll get there. Plenty more tris this summer and looking forward to them all. Last updated: 2006-06-21 12:00 AM

Tried to get plenty of sleep the night before-but didn't quite happen since my nephew sleptover so he could come watch the race for the first time and cheer me on. 8 year olds NEVER run out of energy. I had my usual breakfast, 2 slices of wheat toast with butter and peanut butter (I need to stop using this low carb peanut butter though-not good for digestion).
I was running WAY late today. Took the late 9:50 start to literally and left the house way late. Got registered late and had to run to make my wave's start. Didn't really stretch (very bad). No real warm-up
