Age Group Rank = 14/19
Pre-race routine:

Ate Peanutbutter-Honey-Banana sandwich, drank a Gatorade G2 drove to Brookings.. sent wife to wal-mart to purchase a towel which I had forgotten.
Event warmup:

Swam in the diving well, a bit too early as it turned out. waited, waited, waited
Swim
  • 10m 32s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

decent pool swim, need to learn to get my large rear out of the pool via the edge.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting out of the pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Not sure if this includes the run down the stairs and outside, which was sketchy but better than last year based off race reports. they had towels down, but it was still wet stairs. took it really slow. parking lot had not been swept, but it was covered in snow on Monday, I'll take it. Didn't get my feet real clean, but it didn't turn out to be an issue.
Bike
  • 39m 58s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Was ill prepared for the wind, even though it was maybe 10-15mph. This race marked only the 2nd ride of the trainer since October. The Highway 14Bypass crossing is under staffed and borderline dangerous, needs to have local law enforcement manually directing traffic.
What would you do differently?:

Ride outside more, but that means buying proper gear to ride in sub-optimal temps. Learn to drink on the bike. parched..
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

went smooth.. feet were still gritty in my socks, but the shoes came off and went on just fine.
Run
  • 33m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

nice run, but never really got my legs. should have perhaps walked the water stop and cooled down.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks..and then some more...
Post race
Warm down:

gatorade and stretching.

Event comments:

The bike course needs to have a look at the highway crossing, other than that it's about as good as it gets in this local area.
