Swim
Comments: This was just embarrassing! I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been in the water once since September, so I wasn't expecting to do well, but I completely fell apart, which was unexpected. I started off normally, but within 10 strokes or so, I couldn't get control of my breathing. I ended up having to do most of this doing the backstroke because I just couldn't breathe otherwise. I'm sure some of it was lack of training, but I also suspect that my wetsuit is too small for me after my winter weight gain, so it was quite constricting. Regardless, this is not a moment I want to relive anytime soon... What would you do differently?: Not completely choke? I'll definitely make sure this scenario doesn't happen again! Transition 1
Comments: I didn't rush through this as quickly as usual since I was pretty down about the swim and it was raining too. Bike
Comments: I knew the bike would be my strongest event today, but with all of the rain, I had to hold back somewhat. It was really difficult to see and there were large puddles all over the place. While I wanted to make up some time, my priority now is the B2B ride, so I wasn't about to risk crashing, especially after knowing that my swim had already knocked me down to the bottom of the pack. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, given the conditions, I was pretty happy with my pace. Transition 2
Comments: Had a bit of an issue getting on my running shoes since they don't slide on well when they're wet. Run
Comments: This was okay considering that I'm coming off of an ankle injury this winter. I basically had to start with 1M runs at a 10+ min/mile pace, so the fact that I've improved to this point is encouraging. I still have more work to do to get back to where I used to be though. Post race
Warm down: Changed out of my soaking wet clothes into mildly wet clothes. Was feeling pretty down about how the race went, so I just left after that... Event comments: Any issues I had with this race were my problems, and nothing to do with the race. Max Performance always puts on a good race, and I'll be back for others later in the year. Hopefully I'll see big improvements by then! Last updated: 2013-04-29 12:00 AM

I did a lot of walking, since the parking area is rather far from the start and I walked over to pick up my registration before moving all my gear from the car.
None, I thought about swimming for a bit, but didn't end up having much extra time by the time I got set up.
