Swim
Comments: Nice sandy beach to start and it was a single loop. This was my 3rd Open Water event and each time I get more comfortable with the crowd and not seeing the black line underneath me. Now I will start on getting faster. What would you do differently?: Work on my speed and sighting. Room for plenty of improvement. Transition 1
Comments: It was cold heading into the transition area and my feet and hands needed to warm up a bit before functioning. I went slow in this transition as I had to make sure I got everything as my brain was a bit slow. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Bike
Comments: It was windy and hilly. I felt like I had no power during this event. I need to work on my power and get faster on the bike. What would you do differently?: Be sure to utilize the bathrooms right before the event starts. I really had to go on the bike but no good place to pull over. I am not quite there yet as far as just letting things flow on the bike. So my run time has a few extra seconds on it when I was standing still. Transition 2
Comments: quick transition for me What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: It was a nice run. I should have gone faster but the bike part tired me out. I will be working on my run so the next race you will see an improvement. I saw my son on the course as he was participating in the Sprint event. That was fun seeing him and giving each other high-fives as we passed each other (he was coming towards me) What would you do differently?: practice my speed Post race
Warm down: Just grabbed some water and chatted with my son as we looked for my wife - who was busy taking pictures..... Event comments: I enjoyed the race and things seemed to move along. They were late getting started but that was due to the traffic buildup on the highway leading to the event. They wanted to give the folks stuck in traffic a bit more time to arrive. Woke up and had light breakfast. My son participated in the Sprint and my wife was the family photographer. It took us about 50 minutes to drive to the event.
As I was also helping my son setup his transition time I sort of ran out of time to jog and get properly warmed up. It was cold and the start of the event was delayed due to traffic as people were still arriving. Next time I will bring sandals or something so I am not walking around with barefoot when it is cold.
