Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:45am, Milo smoothie and muffin with marmite and coffee. 3 hours sleep as the neighbours were having a house warming party!

Wore my sleeveless orange NB top over the the sleeveless black RA top.
Event warmup:

10 mins stretching at home then a 5 minute run at the event. Amazingly when I returned to the car after the short run to drop off some clothing, there was a woman at the car in front, dressed in her race gear having a smoke!!! Unbelievable!

Comments:

Cold start, it began raining just as we lined up to go. It pelted down and with the stiff Northerly it was cold heading into it on the first leg. Rain stopped after about 20 mins and stayed away but was around long enough to get soaked and cold. Having wet shoes gave me some blister issues and I even had a bleeding blister on my left achilles tendon which I didn't know I had until I was queuing for the goodies bag at the end.[I cannot remember the last time I had a blister on my achilles tendons!!!) It was right after I noticed a guy who I thought had a blood nose from the blood on his shirt but got a better look and saw he had bled copiously from chafing of both nipples! Ouch!
What would you do differently?:

Push harder at the start although I was a bit conservative due to lack of running since the GC Marathon on 2nd July. I was unsure of what I would be capable of so pace setting was bit tricky early on. I actually hadn't run this far since that race. Very surprised and pleased with the negative splitting of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Power Gel when I first finished. Bath, red wine, champagne cocktail!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More LT training but this was a 'C' race for me so very happy with what I did!

Event comments:

Good race, 'free' T shirt and goodies. Race entry fee $60. They must be hoping that next year the wx is finally good on race day! (We had the warmest days on record for Sept on the two days leading up to this race and yet today was cold and wet!)
