Swim
Comments: I felt I was able to stay on course better than previously. I was happy asthis was something I wanted to work on. The first 150meters were brutal. Very aggressive start with a lot of kicking and punching in the water (unintentional I am sure) but since I am kind of FOP in the swim you always get pushed around more than when you sit back in BOP. I still think a triatlon swim start is something everyone needs to experience for themselves at least once...Scary and very exciting too. What would you do differently?: I would practicemore OW swimming with my wetsuit. I need to be able to find a steady pace where I won;t be huffing ad puffing by the end. I feel even though I am a good swimmer I end up spending way too much energy on the swim and pay for it later. Transition 1
Comments: I would love to be able to run, jump on bike and put my shoes on while riding but I have yet to practice and master that skill. I was happy that taking off the wetsuit went better than I expected. T1 was a lot longer than it should have but only because I took my sweet time since I was already tired and knew I was in for a tough bike ride. What would you do differently?: If I learn to pacebetter on the swim I will be able toshave off 1 minute off my T1 just due to the fact that I will have more energy to get rolling on the bike ASAP. I would also like to practice getting into my shoes while riding. All else was good. ( I also knocked down thebike on the racj next to me and spent about 30 seconds getting it back on the rack...now is that proper race etiquette or what???) Bike
Comments: Man I SUCK at Cycling. Hills, very hard. Legs, very weak. Bike, so so. I need to work a lot on this if I want to improve my performance. It is very frustrating to be passed by no less than 60-80 riders while only passing 1 or 2. What would you do differently?: How do we say....RIDE LOTS, practice more hills and get some muscle on my puny little chicken legs. I am a good swimmer, so what, the bike is where the race really happens. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, nothng major to note. What would you do differently?: Could have gone faster but was feeling a little sick from thebike and needed the extra few seconds to catch my breath. Run
Comments: Had to slow down considerably because I was feeling sick and kept burping my liquids. Probably because my heart was pumping too hard and I had not properly hydrated at the right pace. Not happy with the run because I love running and would have loved to know what time I could have done if feeling better. What would you do differently?: Take care of hydrating/nutrition better than I did. Trust my RPE and not the stupid KM markers as they were obvioulsy completely off. Post race
Warm down: Did not warm down other than simply walking around and catching my breath. Should have spent more time strecthing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not at my peak, did not hydrate properly and might of eaten a little too much before the race. Felt flat most ofthe race. No bursts of energy like I am used to in training. Event comments: I love the venue, loved the course although bike was a little too difficult for my current bike skill. Overall great experience and am hoping to kill my time next year after I .....RIDE LOTS!! Also this race was my 1st oppurtunity to meet a fellow BTer...OPUS, nice to meet you. Nice race on the bike. Woke up early, had amazing motel room where I could see the entire lake and transisiton area from my balcony. My bike was the third one on the racks so got great spot. Set-up my area nad went for breakfast 2 hours before race start. Had 2 carrot muffins and a banana. Drank 2 coffees and then a lot of water.
Had to decide last minute if I would swim with my wetsuit or not as I had only swam with it twice and one of those times was the night before. I found the swim very difficult in practice in part due to the added stress the suit put on my shoulders. Decided to go with the suit as it would be great race experience and the water was pretty chilly. plus 80% of participants had wetsuits on too....No actual warm-up I felt I was ready to go without it.
