Pre-race routine:

I did the clinic/warm-up which was really helpful. Good to know about currents and all. I was a bit frazzled because I didn't get to leave work as early as I wanted, but I made it in plenty of time and the clinic halped me focus.
Event warmup:

We ran along the beach from the transition/swim exit to the swim start, then swam out to the first buoy and back. Just a few minutes later they started - it was perfect timing!

Comments:

This was pretty cool! I was happy that I did the clinic & warm-up because I think it really helped. I wasn't nearly as freaked out as I thought. The water was pretty choppy, but no current at all. Very easy to get in, just not so easy to breathe all throughout. I could feel when I got lifted up on top of a wavecrest. I was breathing every other stroke pretty much throughout. Sighting got better. I identified some building that lined up OK with the bouy, it was easier to see. Still a little zig-zagging, but overall pretty good. I didn't really push myself, I just wanted to get it done with maybe 70-80% effort. I am never as exhausted after swimming than I am after biking or running. But I think I did pretty good :)

I cramped.
What would you do differently?:

Take more magnesium? Stretch? It has gotten better though.

Comments:

I cramped a bit in my right calf when I got out of the wetsuit, but it went away as soon as I started running. It was a bit hard at first - I've never ran right after swimming! I pushed myself maybe a little too hard as I could feel my chest tightening up a bit - Seitenstechen! But as soon as we turned around and I knew I was halfway there, I picked up the pace a little. I kept up with a runner who ran just a little faster than me, and after the halfway point I actually passed her. Towards the end, the swim instructor from Sunday's tri club practice swim passed me, and I just had to catch up with him - I sprinted really really hard and I did catch up with him - but I think he slowed down a bit ;) Not sure if I could have used that energy I had left throught the run. I think it would have been hard to run any faster for that long. Very happy :) I won a hydration belt at the raffle, but because I don't use them I returned it and got a very warm and fuzzy soft beanie instead.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

I sprinted so hard at the end that I almost threw up. But only for short. Then I stuffed myself silly with muffins and doughnuts!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

30% body fat?

Event comments:

Will come back. Lots of fun - local people.

Course: From the changing rooms north on the windy bike path, then back on the straight road. It was fun & weird at the same time because the course was not closed and there were all sorts of runners, bikers, walkers, couples making out, etc.
