Overall Rank = 6/50
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

alarm 4:30, cup of coffee, 3 pieces of toast with PB, banana, bathroom, left about 5:15 for race, had packed the night before
Event warmup:

half going off at 6:45 so had an extra hour, took my time in transition, then got wet and swam maybe 25 yards as a warmup
Swim
  • 27m 31s
  • 1584 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK swim, not great, disappointed with time as I have swam this distance in 24 or 25 before without a wetsuit, my swim is slower or I swam crooked
What would you do differently?:

go harder? not sure, last year when I did this race I was faster and #3 out of the water
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

so so transition, ran out of water OK, took a little extra time getting out of wetsuit, also I decided to put on a long sleeve shirt because it was cold and I'm glad I did
What would you do differently?:

maybe be a little quicker with the bike shoes, helmet, and wetsuit
Bike
  • 1h 15m 42s
  • 25.94 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

first race on tri bike, one of my faster splits, especially since it is only June, felt pretty comfortable, used aerobars quite a bit except on really bumpy spots
What would you do differently?:

not much, maybe go a little bit harder, HR 150?
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

new tri shoes saved some time, not tieing laces, not sure I stopped and started my watch accurately, times based on Garmin
What would you do differently?:

not much
Run
  • 42m 55s
  • 6.34 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

run felt good, happy with my speed, spring marathon really helps, no cramping or pain at all in legs, felt strong, though it was uncomfortable
What would you do differently?:

not much, I think this may have been my fastest 10k
Post race
Warm down:

walked a little, supposed to be a chiropractic tent, didn't see it

What limited your ability to perform faster:

maybe swimming straighter, cold water? going a little harder on the bike

Event comments:

my ranks don't include the 2 guys in my age group who placed 2nd and 3rd overall, so would need to add two places to just about everything except i beat the #3 guy in the swim and the run. For an early season olympic it went pretty well. Would like to get my time down in the lower 2:20's prior to age group nationals, get a little faster in the swim like I used to be, a little faster bike, and maintain the run
