Swim
Comments: I was in the first wave - we could do a tread start if so desired, or stand on the ramp. I chose to get in to be front and center. It was also cold, so getting in was a better option. We tread for a while - I'd say a good 5-7 mins. It was long enough to hear the pre-race blessing and Star-Spangled-Banner. I was getting tired! I had a great start, but it didn't come without issues! The waves were fairly large and the water was choppy. I lost my breath a couple times and had to flip to backstroke to catch my breath. I was in a great position from the get-go, holding on to second around the first buoy. Then I inhaled a nice amount of water and lost my head-to-head partner just at the first turn. I thought I came in 3rd, but it shows second, so I'll take it! Considering the choppy water, the swim felt great. What would you do differently?: More open water swim practice. Transition 1
Comments: This is a tough transition for me. I really need to work on getting my socks and shoes on quickly. Otherwise, getting gear on is great. I'd like to work on a running mount, and MUST get in clips. What would you do differently?: Practice getting socks and shoes on with wet feet. Practice running mount. Bike
Comments: My bike was great! I really felt comfortable and in control. For once I felt I was able to hold my pace the entire course. What would you do differently?: Nothing other than more riding! Transition 2
Comments: Not much can be said here. I didn't put my run belt on for the bike, so that took additional time, and I fumbled racking my bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: This was my best race run yet, but still terrible. Running always has and always will be the worst for me. Saying that, I felt great. It took me a minute or two to get my legs back after the bike, then I was ready to go. I ran/walked the whole way, leaving the walking to a minimum, only to catch my breath. What would you do differently?: Just run. I HAVE to run more to build my stamina and get stronger. Period. Post race
Event comments: I love TriGirl!! This will be the one race I will do every year. Can't say enough about the race itself, Jana and Carrie (RD's) and the volunteers. Just great. Last updated: 2013-05-12 12:00 AM
