Age Group Rank = 2/35
Pre-race routine:

Same as usual.
Swim
  • 14m 10s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was choppy from the wind but nothing compared to last couple of races. Started out well and felt good. Sighting was good first two segments, third segment I was all over the place and had a hard time sighting and swimming straight.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Slow. Been used to longer races with less emphasis on fast transitions. La-te-da.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster
Bike
  • 34m 47s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Blah. Felt slow from the get go and really slow the first two miles. Lack of bike fitness really showing up. Pace was slower than my last HIM. Got passed by 3 people. Pushed as hard as fitness would let me but that would come back later.
What would you do differently?:

Riding the bike for training would be a good start.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Again, not much practice trying to do this fast and it shows.
Run
  • 20m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt heavy coming off the bike. Stayed heavy the whole run. Was hoping to flirt with going 20 flat but realized that was out the door after mile 1. Mile 2 was mostly uphill and was slower than mile 1. Mile 3 was mostly downhill and my legs did free up a little bit.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks maybe. Bike fitness will help with heavy legs.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some soda and waited for a few others I knew to come in. Saw the results posted and was shocked I got 2nd in AG. I guess everyone else was also rusty.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike fitness. Have only ridden outside 7 times since November. Was an OK race with a good result and I am more than happy with that.

Event comments:

Good start to the tri season. Course was not as fast as advertised IMHO, certainly not hard, but not what I would consider flat and fast. Would consider this early season race again.
