Pre-race routine:

This was the 2nd race of the weekend for me, having done the Big Woods Lake Tri the day before. Muscle-wise I felt good after that race, not sore or anything, and I did a good job of taking it easy and hydrating a refueling throughout the day Saturday, so I thought I'd have a decent run. I woke up in the morning not feeling the greatest though, my stomach was really upset. It must have been something I ate, so i decided to just do liquids before the race. The wife and I got to the race around 6:30 for the 7 am start, hit the bathrooms and then went to line up. Still feeling pretty nauseous when the gun went off...
Event warmup:

Nothing really other than walking from the car to the start.

Comments:

I actually liked the way the course was set up to avoid the flooded areas on the typical course, it broke the race up into 3 chunks to focus on. The first chunk on the south river trail went reasonably well, I was pacing at about 6:55/mi without too much trouble, and the stomach wasn't bothering me too much. Unfortunately there was only 2 water stops between the start and mile 8. It's common to not have enough water stops at this race, so I should know better and should have carried a bottle, but I didn't. So by mile 8 I was really thirsty, even though it wasn't as warm as it usually is for this race. I also have a very high sweat rate so that didn't help matters. Shortly after mile 8 I felt very sick suddenly and had to stop at a portajohn to throw up and use the bathroom. From mile 8 to 10 I was moving very slow and still feeling sick, so I stopped at mile 10 to throw up and use the portajohn again. After that I felt better, but decided not to push the issue to the end of the race. Probably could have done 1:30 or so if not for my troubles.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, I must have eaten something Saturday that didn't agree with me, so I'd avoid that I suppose...
Post race
Warm down:

I had some water and chocolate milk, stretched a bit, and walked out to see my wife finish, then headed home to work on my deck all day!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nausea

Event comments:

Definitely enjoy this race, do it every year!
