Swim
Comments: Did the usual, took it easy, let the rush go and trailed behind. Avoided the 1st buoy mess this time as I went a bit wider. No problem sighting and stayed on the inside line this time to the 2nd & 3rd buoy and cut the 3rd buoy sharp. Had some good drafting and started passing swimmers around the halfway point and more on the finish stretch. Climbed the ladder onto the pier and enjoyed the nice long jog up to the T1 mat. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route... What would you do differently?: Train! But managed a swim PR time ever since the course distance has been reliably set by line. Need to get swim <10:30... Transition 1
Comments: About as good as I could do it for the bike rack location. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike PR for this course! Slight headwind on the way out, goal was to maintain >22mph. Took 2nd gel as I approached the turn around then hit it on the way back with the tailwind holding >24.5. Had a group of riders pass me at 11.5 miles and some were drafting big time. The leader of the pack was a ranked woman AG that I know wasn't involved. Had to slow 0.5 mph to let those trying to pass pass. Got feed up at the 3.5mi to go point and decided to hammer it and speed up to 26mph and re-passed everyone and held >25.5 on the way back Did a perfect flying dismount. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route... What would you do differently?: More brick training... Transition 2
Comments: Lost about 20s in T2 due to not having my speed laces on and having to tie the laces. What would you do differently?: Put on the speed laces. Run
Comments: I was concerned about the run as calf issues have been my on going issue, sure enough about 1/3 mile into it I had to stop and stretch my left calf as it was starting to spasm on me. Got going again and was able to eek out a 8:30 for the 1st mile. In mile 2 I tried to increase the pace but once I got at 8:00 pace the calf would spasm and I had to back off to 8:15 or so, 3rd mile had to back of fa bit more and was able to push the finish. Had a lot left in the tank, I know I could have done up to 90sec faster. Till next year! What would you do differently?: More brick training after a hard trainer session. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. They handed ice cold water that I promptly dumped on my head. Results were live at the timing trailer on one of several widescreen displays. Knew right away my finish rankings and when I say the time was a PR I was very happy. Found my wife and friends, recovered a bit before hitting the beer trailer and food tent. Talked it up with some other triathletes I know. What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim & run... Event comments: This race just keeps getting bigger and better. Perfect FL summer weather. next year sub 1:20 is the goal... Last updated: 2013-05-17 12:00 AM

Up at 4:15m, ate a banana with big cup of coffee. Picked up B at 5:10. K&C also came to watch.
None. Had a gel 15' before the swim started.
