Swim
Comments: A long strand of kelp got stuck around my neck at about 100 yards out. I kept swimming with it thinking it would eventually slide off. It didn't and I tried my best to move it and swim. That didn't work so I had to completely stop and remove it. Grrr! After that, I was off. Pretty good swim as I caught a swimmer and drafted off him on his left side. I made a sighting mistake by turning left at the wrong buoy so I had to make a course correction. >.< I caught the guy I drafted before that and kept doing the same. I cut him off at the correct left turn buoy and we and 2 other swimmers had contact. I didn't think he liked it because he tried to swim over me. Didn't work and I was gone. Never saw him again. The swells got bigger after the halfway point and I got a bit dizzy. Kept going to a good swim finish on the beach. :) What would you do differently?: Sight better and remove stuck kelp the moment any get stuck on me. I swam a bit off course several times adding about 200-300 yards. Transition 1
Comments: Walked to my transition area since I felt dizzy. I saw some swim finishers and bike out athletes collide on my way there. O_O I guess next time, the center should be used for swim finishers and the sides for bike out? What would you do differently?: Nothing. The asphalt hurt my soft feet so I walked. =P Bike
Comments: I drank regularly 15 minutes in but probably too much because I ran out at mile 16. I wish there was a bike aid station, hehe! >.< What would you do differently?: Look at how much hydration I have left. Transition 2
Comments: Jogged my way to my transition area. Went smoothly. It was still overcast but I applied sunscreen just in case. (And it's a good thing I did because the sun came out at mile 4). What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Kept pace as easy as possible. Left ankle felt sore throughout mile 1. Ate my only gel at quarter mile in. Got my stride all of mile 2 but near the end of that, my left hamstring cramped really bad. The rest of the run was running until cramps came, walked for a bit and continued until the end. What would you do differently?: More run fitness needed. =P Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank Endurox, ate post race food (Orange, banana, hamburger). What limited your ability to perform faster: Sub par training. Event comments: This is still my favorite race venue. I plan on racing this every year as my fun race. Last updated: 2013-05-17 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:15 to load up gear. Ate breakfast and left for race site at 5am. There was no line at the entrance surprisingly. :)
My transition spot sucked though. It was at the run exit which is the opposite end of the swim in and bike in/out. Argh!!!
Very minimal training was done for this race so my mental game was to just have fun.
With a 8:00 wave start time, I went back to the car to relax a bit. Got into my wetsuit and entered the water at 7:50. Got acclimated and excited, woo!
