Swim
Comments: Before the swim was officially cancelled, JLT and I decided to opt out. The water was super choppy and the race officials made sure all the athletes finished before setting the next wave out. The lifeguards and kayak volunteers were very busy. After setting off 4-5 waves, the time between waves increased and we didn't want to wait another 45-60 minutes. What would you do differently?: Not soak my wetsuit the night before a cold swim and wear/bring a blanke to keep warm pre-swim. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was not recorded so I sorta took my time. :) What would you do differently?: Pay attention and research how other athletes set-up transition. This race was better, but I could be better at setting out my things for a quick 'grab 'n go". Bike
Comments: I liked this course. Just the right amount of hills and flats. I went out fast and maintained it much of the ride. Lots of hard breathing. ;) What would you do differently?: Warm up on the bike before heading out on the swim. Transition 2
Comments: Terri W. was cheering me on which initially distracted me. :) My goal is to be in/out in 1 min. What would you do differently?: Stay focused and practice what I need in T2 15 minutes before getting there. Had I been prepared, I would have remembered my visor/sunglasses on the run and saved time. Run
Comments: JLT passed me on the way out. Until I caught up to her, I ran at a comfy fast pace. If I had to guess, it was under 9:00. Kept thinking about making smart decisions with my foot and keeping my breath even. I felt fast and great! When I caught JLT, we ran most of the course and walked some. She was getting over a cold/tummy issues and I was playing it safe with my foot. Good match. We had h2o at the turn around (walked it) and finished together. :) What would you do differently?: Nothing really... ;) Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank a bottle of water and went to the bathroom. Grabbed 2 long sleeve shirts + sweat shirt from transition and ate a breakfast burrito (no tortilla) and 1/2 orange. They tasted delicious!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Held back as insurance on run with foot. I raced the bike course and was happy with my time/performance. Event comments: Lake Mills is a fun and easy course to get the triathlon season started. It's great to see friends and race together. :) Last updated: 2013-05-18 12:00 AM

Janet and I arrived early (5:45am) and picked up race bags, leaving gear in the car. I loved this approach = less stress and stuff to cart around. :)
I didn't warm-up. It was cold and windy,
