Swim
Comments: Felt pretty good on the swim. My goal was to break 20 minutes and I did that so I was happy. I could've done better if I had concentrated a bit more on my stroke because half way through I realized I wasn't pulling like I should've. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Concentrate on my stroke and not worry so much about going off course. Transition 1
Comments: I need to practice transitions more. I'm always slow! What would you do differently?: Train without socks so I don't have to worry about putting them on. Bike
Comments: Having NEVER ridden any type of hills at all on my new bike I feel like I did a pretty good job. I wasn't sure how the whole shifting thing would work out, but I did alright. I even passed some people as I went up, but I was passed, too. At one point I had to slow down because the cop was letting cars turn in front of me...that was not cool! Overall I was happy, but I definitely need to ride more hills before Iron Star. I haven't been out to the Iron Star course yet...does anyone know how it compares to the River Cities course? What would you do differently?: Train on hills! Transition 2
Comments: First race with aero bottle, so when I went to put my bike on the rack I had a hard time getting it on with the new bottle. That took a little time. Got my shoes on fine, but then I started running the wrong way! I headed toward the bike exit instead of running around to the run exit. That's what happens when I don't have enough time before hand to figure everything out! Luckily it was only 10 feet or so until I realized what I was doing. As soon as I turned around I heard my husband yelling "that's the wrong way". What would you do differently?: Rack bike faster and not run the wrong way! Run
Comments: HORRIBLE RUN! As soon as I started I got a pain in my side and a knot in my stomach that never went away. I knew it was going to hurt until I got a chance to walk at the first water stop so I tried to push hard. After getting some water and walking a bit I started to run again but the pain was still there. My goal had been to finish the run in under 26 minutes, but that soon changed to finishing in under 30 minutes. I finished with 3 seconds to spare, but that long run cause me to miss my goal of 1:50. Oh well, I guess I'll be forced to try again next year! What would you do differently?: Suck it up and run hard anyway. I don't know what caused that pain, but I hope it doesn't happen again! Post race
Warm down: They took my chip, I got my medal and some water, and then I had to sit down. I sat down in the first shady spot I could find and waited for my husband to find me. He found me and we talked about our races. Didn't eat a single thing at the post race party, just drank lots of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Never having trained on hills, slow transitions, and my stomach cramps. Event comments: Great race! Hopefully I'll get to do it again next year! Woke up at 5:15 and had a PB and J sandwich and an Ensure. I packed my bag the night before so all I had to do was load my bike and head to the race site. I heard about the parking situation last year and hoped to leave early enough to have plenty of time to set up transition, but that didn't happen because I felt rushed the whole time.
Walked around a bit drinking water.
