Pre-race routine:

Breakfast at the motel, arrive at the venue nice and early for registration and transition. Spent 30 min fiddling around in transition before warm up.
Event warmup:

2km jog with some pick ups then 200m swim.
Swim
  • 25m 59s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim, bit of a rough start got knocked about a bit. Once we got past the sand bar things got easier and the group got a little more spread out.

Found some feet after the first buoy, which was handy! Swam mostly in a pack of 4.

The tide was pulling out which made the last 200m very, very slow.
What would you do differently?:

Relax at the start, it took me 200m to get into a rhythm.

Swim harder!
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Bike
  • 1h 11m 33s
  • 41 kms
  • 34.38 km/hr
Comments:

Really, really good bike, I was fast, comfortable even with the number of bloody U-turns on the course. Nutrition and hydration were perfect. I pushed just hard enough to hit my time goal without overdoing it.
What would you do differently?:

I want a tri-bike!
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Shoes were hard to get on, took me longer than it should have.
Run
  • 42m 54s
  • 10 kms
  • 13m 59s  min/km
Comments:

Great run, ran my faster ever 5km and 10km in the process. Extremely pleased with the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of drink and some free ice cream!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim, not enough time in the pool recently.

Event comments:

Excellent race, beautiful location and very well organised. I will definitely be back next year.
