Total Time = 2h 27m 50s
Overall Rank = 176/223
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 16/19
Pre-race routine:

Egg beater and cheese sandwich on a roll with 8 oz OJ Got to event early and checked out the swim course and beginning of run course
Event warmup:

some stretching, otherwise tried to stay warm on the hood of the truck
Swim
  • 23m 3s
  • 1055 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

By start of race I knew another rest top would be required. The wade water temp felt good but once submerged my chest tightened and the breathing suffered. After I warmed up the suite performance helped as I passed several people including some from the elite wave before mine wave. Only got passed by a couple from the subsequent wave
What would you do differently?:

Warm up some and prepare for the cold water
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Had to make a pit stop which definitely slowed me down. ranked 64 due to need to pee.
What would you do differently?:

Dry my feet due to trouble with getting shoes on.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 14s
  • 20 miles
  • 15.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice bike and kept up with a few people who I went back and forth with for most of the race. Thought I was going a bit faster and might have been the cool day, or cold swim tightening things up. I took 4 Cliff shot blocks and a GU gel in the first half of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Increase cadence in a few spots, Joined the pre race bike. Dry my feet, or wear sock to get feet into shoes easier
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Not the best transition as I ranked 214 where T1 I ranked 67. Running with the bike was the best part, and lost time on a lot of other little things
What would you do differently?:

Practice finding rack prior to race. Dry feet, or wear socks to avoid trouble getting shoes on. Consider water belt / bottle to drink while moving. Probably would have benefitted from a Gel here.
Run
  • 41m 55s
  • 4 miles
  • 05m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good leaving transition but walk a few sections. At one point I felt my Hamstring twinge and stop to stretch it a bit and it did not cause much problem after that.
What would you do differently?:

More BRICK. increase workout frequency for run.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished with decent strength and drank some water and went straight for the food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

While I expected a better time, I think the cold water and cool weather conditions slowed things down. Weather report was for sun and approaching 70+ and it ended up cloudy and cool all day. Physically more training which might mean better nutrition.

Event comments:

The awards were typical/below average but the post race food was great! Plenty of water on the run course. Felt safe on the bike course. So overall a very nice race. Some confusion with Cap colors/wave start but otherwise well organized and had fun. Hope for better weather next year.
