Swim
Comments: I pretty much took this swim too easy. I was really focused on pacing myself for these longer distances and lollygagged along a bit. I kept telling myself to "swim my own race" and maybe I should have gotten pissed that the wave of guys behind me caught me. I was still out of the water in a decent time, but this is somewhere where I KNOW I can shave some time. What would you do differently?: Swim faster and more aggressively. Transition 1
Comments: Transition went well. I don't know that I'd really change anything other than stuff another gel in my pocket. Bike
Comments: This was a fun course. However, being in the first wave and coming out of the water pretty quick, it was really discouraging to be passed by just about darn near everyone...ok, everyone but 6 people, who later passed me on the run. I actually started joking to everyone that I was "performing a public service by being their rabbit. That I'd fall on that axe for them and give them someone to chase down. However, that'll be $1 for everyone who passes me!" I felt like I did the ride about as good as I could have. I might have been able to push the long slow hills a bit more, but I was really focused on saving my legs for the run. I did have a great last 8 miles, even with the brutal 15mph headwind. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe push the gradual hills more. I did lose my water bottle about 1/2 way and they had the water station on the bike at the bottom of a 25mph hill and I couldn't catch a bottle to save my life. So I was a bit low on the hydration...I had a gatorade bottle, but wanted plain ol' H20. Did a Luna bar and 2 gels on bike. That seemed about perfect. Transition 2
Comments: Went well, should have grabbed another gel pack. Grabbed Sport Beans instead, which actually went down really easy and I didn't have to worry about mess. But I was getting hungry by the time I finished. Run
Comments: I was, once again, passed by just about everyone. I ran this conservatively because I was so afraid of bonking. In hind sight, I could have picked up the pace sooner and ran faster the entire thing. But my original goal was to run the entire run and I did it, so I'm proud of that. I never claimed to be fast, just stubborn. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder on the run once I got my legs back. Post race
Warm down: My 3-yr-old got to run across the finish line with me and she was so proud. Her smile was from ear to ear and she just kept saying, "Mama, we're winners! We're winners! They're cheering for us!" Afterwards she said, "I was running so fast that my feet were kicking my bottom!" What limited your ability to perform faster: I think just inexperience at this distance. I felt good the whole race. Now I know how to pace myself. I also should probably work on some speed intervals on the run...but that would involve some serious torture so I'll have to think about it! :) Event comments: Most of all, I had a lot of fun on this race. I knew I'd be in the bottom 25%, that's no surprise to me, but I had the best time and feel great about what I accomplished. A year ago, I wouldn't have put in those distances in 2 weeks of training. I think I'll do more Olympic distance races. I'll never be competitive at them, but I will keep myself fit and have fun doing them. Last updated: 2006-06-24 12:00 AM

Picked up packet that night before. Went and ate great sushi(all vegetarian rolls) and stayed at my parents house in Longmont, about 30 minutes from race site. I think sushi is my new carb load meal!
Woke up at 4am to eat. Had Einstein's Powerbagel with PB, 1/2 banana, oatmeal, applesauce, gatorade. 1/2 cup bad 7-11 coffee.
Visiting the porta potty..that took my whole warmup time with the long lines!
