Total Time = 56m 58s
Overall Rank = 115/399

Age Group Rank = 7/17
Event warmup:

swam 100 meters..probably should have done more.
Swim
  • 04m 1s
  • 200 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

I lost some time getting hung up behind some people in front of me...I thought I could hit about 3:40 so a little disappointed in the time.
What would you do differently?:

Eh, swim over people.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Rookie mistakes..1. went to wrong bike rack 2. had shoes on bike with rubber bands...got one foot in but couldn't get the other one in. Had to stop, unclip, put my other shoe on and reclip...bone head mistakes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions...a lot!
Bike
  • 31m 6s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Fairly pleased with the bike split given I started from scratch this year. If I hadn't had the shoe problem coming out of T1 I could have gotten it under 31 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Need a lot of work in this area. Overall leaders came in at 24 minutes and my age group leaders came in around 27 minutes. Plus, I didn't have a whole lot left for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

More mistakes...a little slow getting off the bike. Racked the bike in the wrong slot..had to rerack it. Other than that, transition was ok.
What would you do differently?:

More transition practice
Run
  • 17m 47s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a little gassed coming off the bike and the hills hurt on the run...need to build up bike fitness. My open 5k time is about 45 secs/mile faster. The last hill before the finish hurt but I kept telling myself not to stop and I didn't!
What would you do differently?:

Better fitness and pacing on the bike will help. I'm working on increasing my run volume too.
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with several friends from my swim group and compared notes. Everyone had fun. Got something to eat and just hung out until time sheets started coming out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transition mistakes and bike fitness are the low hanging fruit in that area but I think I can improve my run and swim too with more training.

Event comments:

Team Magic did a nice job conducting the race.
