Pre-race routine:

Point to point. Dropped off my run gear double-bagged in the rain on Saturday. We drove right to the starting line with my bike.
Event warmup:

The air was cold so I wanted to test the water. I decided that day to wear a wetsuit because on how much the air and water temps had fallen (I do not do well swimming while cold). Swam about 200-300 meters and got out to put a sweatshirtback on until it was time for my heat.
Swim
  • 25m 18s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Goggles leaking for the first 200m, had to stop twice. Will have new ones for Ironman. I was running out of breath on the first lap and freaking like I always do. Then I realized I was holding my breath about half the time I turned my head. Got myself to relax and focus and cruised the rest of the way. This was a PR by about 7 minutes and a total confidence booster going into Ironman.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Wetsuit got stuck on my ankles. Grr. Because it was point to point you also had to repack your stuff which was annoying. The temp went up by about 4 degrees too and my sunglasses were super fogged up.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 52s
  • 40 kms
  • 31.47 km/hr
Comments:

My legs felt dead from all the training. I struggled up the hills in the first half and with holding a staedy pace above 20mph. Took some spots a bit more cautiously, trying not to get hurt 4 weeks out from Ironman.
What would you do differently?:

Take the first half a bit harder. Was over 21 mph on the second half
Transition 2
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

Almost wiped out in my shoes getting into transition. Everything was wet and I had trouble getting my socks on over wet feet with no towel to stand on.
What would you do differently?:

This is always tough here in this point to point race.
Run
  • 51m 10s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 11s  min/km
Comments:

About the fastest 10K I've ever run in my life. My Garmin wouldn't find the satellites so I was guessing on pace for the first 4 miles. Could have gone harder if I felt like I needed to.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to get breakfast and then walked to the expo to get my medal engraved.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tired from all the Ironman training. Trying not to get hurt.

Event comments:

Had issues again getting times quickly. Frustrating after a race where you felt good about your time.
