Swim
Comments: Breast stroke in waves is sloooooow. Way slower than in calm water and even slower than in the pool. Need to learn freestyle.. What would you do differently?: I was happy with it. I survived it and felt pretty good. Transition 1
Comments: So, this transition was up the boardwalk and through the grass into the parking lot, which was a transition area. When I got there and got the watershoes off, my feet were almost clean- amazing. That was lovely, I just stepped on towel and got socks on and shoes on easily. I noticed I forgot to put a race number on my helmet, but the guy who was there said not to worry about it. So I just made about 35 steps with my bike to get to mounting area and got on not sure where exactly I was supposed to go... What would you do differently?: not much. Bike
Comments: I felt tired coming out of the water. I had one GU taped to the bike and wanted initially eat it later on the bike, but decided that I was really in need of energy and ate it right at the beginning. It hit the spot and I felt better about 3 miles into the ride. Then I told myself it was time to start drinking. so I did that during the ride about every 3 miles. Got maybe 16oz down. What would you do differently?: not much. I paddled happily along and was very pleased that I got a road bike instead of my mountain monster, because I saw how some people had to work 2 times harder to be slower than me on their cruisers and such. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was a return to parking lot. I took time to put my t-shirt on, because it had my number on it, and I thought I had to have that... I grabbed that other GU, I had there as a backup and off I went. What would you do differently?: Next time I need less clothing. in T1 I added bike shorts on my swimsuit and T2 I added t-shirt. I was really hot on the run and soaking wet. Need some swim/bike/run versatile clothing for the next time. Run
Comments: I got one cup of water coming out of T2- my son was standing there with volunteers and handed it to me, my sweetheart. Then I got one cup on each aid station, I guess there were two. So, that was ok. I walked through aid stations drinking, otherwise I ran. What would you do differently?: Not much, other than clothes. I was happy with run, I happened to improve my pace from my previous events. Sooo, really happy about that. Once you run half marathon, you can always run 5K rather easily, I guess. Post race
Warm down: Walked about with kids, couldn't really eat at that point, but drank some juice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just my overall slowness, but! I am the first person in my family to enter any kind of race, so generally very proud of myself for completing a triathlon FINALLY! Event comments: The only thing that was missing was a national anthem at the beginning; I kinda like those... :) But a very nice, good quality event for the little size it was. Ate sandwich with a slice of cheese, had my coffee and got to the venue. Set up the transition, there was almost no space left for the bike when I got there. Spaces were assigned by bib numbers. I had to move some people's bikes to squeeze in. I decided to use water shoes because from the beach to transition was a bit of a run up the hill and over the rocks.. This was very helpful later..
None, I figured swim was going to warm me up. And it did.
