Swim
Comments: Passed two people in the pool. Have to say, for the first time they both stopped right away and let me pass at the wall. Caught up with a 3rd person right at the end. It slowed me down a bit, maybe 10-15 seconds, but not too bad for a pool swim. What would you do differently?: Typical pool swim. It was fine, but not ideal to get a true indication of your time. Transition 1
Comments: Everything was fine here except for my mount. First time I really screwed up a mount and unfortunately it created a problem for the person behind me. Sorry about that. Did not put on my Garmin. Saved a couple of moments. Screwed around too much with my socks. What would you do differently?: Just focus a little better on the mount. Otherwise, the transition was pretty good. Bike
Comments: Good ride. Spent alot of time in aero. Love using the racing belt so I didn't have to have the number flapping around in the wind. First time over 20mph in a race. Doubt I could have done it if it had been a full length sprint, but it was a pretty fast course. What would you do differently?: Other than the mount, it was a good ride. Watch the rough road as you turn into the Y. Trying to avoid it at the last moment took me briefly into on-coming bike traffic coming from the transition. Transition 2
Comments: Fine. Just grabbed my belt and put it on during the run. That saved a few seconds. Run
Comments: I think it was a decent run. I'm sure the 5K yesterday slowed me down a bit, but I thought my 2nd lap was actually better than my first. Again, felt reasonably strong throughout. Held my own within my age group, but still my relative weakness against the field What would you do differently?: Not run a 5K race the day before Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: 5K race and 10 extra lbs. If the bike had been longer, I probably would have been slower on the bike, but given the length, had plenty left in tank for the run. Event comments: Great facilities. My race chip was messed up (missing), and so were my splits (but they were fixed fairly promptly - thanks!), otherwise I would have given the race a 5. Great first race to see if you like tris. They definitely fixed the run course... still a little challenging relative to the other legs, but not the extreme steepness of 2 years ago. Good call, Salem! Thanks all - fun time! Got up at 4:20 and got on the road at 5:15. Made good time and arrived at the site around 7am. Set up went fine, though they didn't have my chip, so an alternative approach required a few minutes to set up. All handled quickly and efficiently. Saw Stacy before the race. He cooked the course!
Just a little swim in the pool and some stretching. Didn't have enough time to do anything more.
